I was out walking in the park, it was grey and cold, the air was damp and the moisture droplets could be felt falling. Thoughts of Christmas were circling in my head, what was needed, what food, what presents? The usual things that go through our minds at this time.
Then I said to myself, let those thoughts go, this is a day for self-care and the park is the perfect place for healing.
Just as I reminded myself to do that, this little cutie flew out in front of me. I think the robin is so beautiful. I always associate them with loved ones who have passed. He flew into the holly shrub beside me, but he looked out at me as if to say, 'Yes I know what you are thinking about, off you go and enjoy your walk, all will be well'. It touched my heart!
There they are little creatures of nature, getting on with it regardless of the weather or whatever else is going on, they go about their business in their little way.
Every Christmas when it gets so busy, it is not always easy to remember to look after ourselves. Take time to breathe, be still, and appreciate the silence that is within if we choose to look for it.
Getting out into the park, being quiet, leaving the phone behind, even that is self-care. It is like an energetic 'do not disturb' sign! I met lots of others doing the same thing, a gentle nod or a smile acknowledges presence and is all that is needed. It was like we were all on a mission to be more calm, more peaceful, and make good of the time-out.
This year in particular Christmas began before Halloween had even ended, have you noticed? The pressure could be felt in the shops with the queues forming in November! Trying not to let that affect us is a big challenge. Reminding myself that I have some tools can still be tough at this time of year when the energy is heavy and busy. I am sure it is the same for everyone.
But manage I do, and take pleasure in the fact that I am prioritising myself when the house needs cleaning and the puddings need making!
The memories I want to create at this time of year, take some planning if I don't wish to be pulled along with the energy of the season. This year I want them to be about priorities, self-care, self-love, and remembering that I am important.
The only time we have is now, this moment and that is all that is powerful. So memories and moments can be designed, specifically by you! Take some time to make special memories with the moments that you have chosen to be just for you. It will pay you dividends!
